Frequently Asked Questions about the Test

Essential facts every Australian citizenship candidate needs to know.

What score do I need to pass the Australian Citizenship Test?

To pass, you must score at least 75% overall (15 out of 20 questions correct) and answer all 5 Australian values questions correctly (5 out of 5). Even if you get 15/20 overall, failing a single values question results in a test failure.

Where do the test questions come from?

All questions are drawn strictly from the examinable sections of the official resource booklet Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond published by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

What happens if I fail the test?

You can re-sit the citizenship test. In most test centers, you can re-sit on the same day if time allows, or the Department of Home Affairs will schedule another appointment for you without charging an additional application fee.

Is the citizenship test available in languages other than English?

No. The official Australian Citizenship Test must be taken in English. Basic knowledge of the English language is a legal requirement for Australian citizenship. However, Aussie Bound offers dual-language practice to help you understand complex legal concepts in your native tongue while building the required English vocabulary.
